A heavy burden.

That was what God placed on Pastor Wee Yan Tiong's shoulders. He was then shepherding Shalom Baptist Church in Dover Road.

And he saw the need to form a church in eastern Singapore for members who travel from as far as Pasir Ris to worship. The seeds of the church germinated from the Marine Parade cell group, which was formed in 1996 and had about 10 members.

A heavy burden.

That was what made many of these members take a one-year intensive course in 1998 to prepare themselves spiritually as founding members of the new church. Finally, with much hope and prayer, they started worshipping as Shaddai Baptist Church in October 1999.

The first service was held at Costa Sands resort at East Coast Park, with 14 chartered members on fire to serve the Lord.16 February 2000 was Shaddai's official birthday - the day we were inaugurated as a society.

A heavy burden.

That was what made us reach out to family, friends and strangers. They came when they read our tracts and visited our website. We held three vacation bible camps for kids. Our worship room could barely contain the 100-over visitors who attended the Shalom Series of sermons in 2001. Then our lease at Costa Sands was almost up.

After searching for almost a year, we moved to our current home at Katong Students' Hostel. More recently, souls were saved at the Johor church camp at Tanjung Puteri resort and the Christmas cantata in December 2006.

A heavy burden.

That is what's making us serve you, with Bible Study every Wednesday and Sunday school and service on Sundays. There are also classes for kids in nursery, kindergarten, primary and secondary school.God's word is our foundation and His commandment to win souls is our mission. And He has proven our name true.

For Shaddai means The Almighty. And by Him was all these possible.

And that makes our work a happy burden.
